What price should you be looking at for a campervan?

What price should you be looking at for a campervan?

How much should you pay for a van and why?

Considering what price you are going to buy a van for Will depend on how many features you want, what year and model you will get and how much you are going to have two spend. At first we were looking in the $6000 range. This was okay. There was some really good vans. That we were looking for something that was perfect. We needed something that we could live in full-time and that is hard when you had two people in a small space like a van. I think it is really important to look at vans outside your price range because it can give you a good idea of what you are missing out on by not spending enough. When talking to my mechanic mate Steve he said that I would be hard pressed to find what I was looking for for 10,000 let alone 15,000. So this made me think that maybe I need to spend a bit more. I talked to another couple that had just spent $10,000 dollars on a campervan and they said that if you get a really good one and look after they really hold their value. This information combined with the fact that we were going to be in it full time and that I am not the most mechanically minded person meant that this was going to be the best way to go.

Most of the backpackers we meet get a van for about $4000. This will get you something pretty basic that has been put together by a backpacker but it is all apart of the experience and at the end of the day (literally) it forces you to enjoy you surroundings and make the most of the campfire and the people around it. There is a lot to be said for getting something and working it from scratch. I have been doing mine up in bits and pieces but when you get the chance to do everything from the ground up the way you like it, you get to make all the right decisions the first time round. I met a great Sweedish guy when we went to Workman Beach (Awesome camp spot in QLD near 1770) and he was saying that although he was a helicopter engineer back home, he felt like he had never done something like this before. He loved the challenge and using his time to better his van and make things. I’m sure snails feel like this too when they clime into their shell.

I would love to hear if anyone else has cool information on this so I can share it on the blog. Please leave a comment below so we can make this the best post on this topic.
